This is a great book on understanding shutter speed. I also have his other book on exposure, great ones to add to your collection.

I bought this book, as well as another one he wrote, and I love them both. Bryan Peterson is an awesome photographer, and an awesome author. Highly recommend.
So I went to the local photography store and bought this book. A lot of space is devoted to his pictures, a lot of which really aren't very good.
It isn't a terrible book but given the reputation this guy has on here I thought I would take a moment and write my first book review ever. He is also fond of talking about how great his life as a pro-photographer is, which is a bit annoying.
There is a picture of his daughter skiing that really looks like a 4 year old took it. Slow shutterspeeds (1/30 and below) will make your pictures look artistic.
I had read a lot of good things about this guy's books, most notably "Understanding Exposure". It is alright for people that really don't understand shutter-speed, but it is a little light on serious photography information for people who have some understanding of shutter-speed already.
You could write a brief summary of this books as follows: Fast shutterspeeds (1/250 and up) will freeze action.
So well written and easy to understand for the beginner but also informative enough for an intermediate/advanced hobbyist to enjoy. I love all of Bryan Peterson's books. I use this book for ideas to help me teach a beginning photography class.
